Signs You Need an Oil Change

Thankfully, your engine oil won't just give up without providing you with indicators that you need to make an appointment. These can include:

  • Your Check Engine Light is On
  • Your Engine Oil is Dark Brown or Black, or the Engine Oil Level is Low
  • You Smell an Oily Odor in the Vehicle's Cabin
  • Your Engine's Performance and Efficiency Noticeably Decreases

Why are Oil Changes Important?

We can't inform our drivers about the necessity of frequent oil changes enough! Your engine oil is responsible for keeping your engine free of dirt, debris, and metal shavings from the road. The engine oil also helps lubricate the moving parts in your engine to ensure that it doesn't overheat. Without proper maintenance, your engine may overheat and become damaged, costing you more in the long run.

How Often Should I Get My Oil Changed?

Our service experts recommend that you get your oil changed anywhere between 3,000 to 6,000 miles, based on the engine oil your vehicle requires and how old your vehicle is. You can refer to your owner's manual for a specific schedule to adhere to when it comes time for your next oil change.

If you prefer to do-it-yourself, an oil change is fairly easy to manage on your own!

  • Jack Up Your Car and Remove the Cover over the Oil Pan
  • Remove Oil Plug and Drain Old Engine Oil
  • Remove Old Oil Filter
  • Replace Drain Plug and Install New Filter
  • Remove Oil Cap and Fill Engine with New Oil
  • Check Oil Level and Check for Leaks

Not sure you want to change your oil? That's okay! Schedule an appointment with the service team at Roper Mitsubishi, and we'll take care of you!
